Indeed, if you generate a monthly turnover of 5000€, you will have to pay 1400€ in contributions and income tax each month.

• There is a 5% VAT, which you must collect when you trade locally. For example, if you invoice your service to a company registered in Dubai.

A business established in the UAE must register for local VAT if:

• The total of its sales of goods and/or services subject to the tax (made locally in the United Arab Emirates) as well as the amount of its imports into the country (goods or services purchased abroad and introduced into the territory of the Emirates) exceeds AED 375 per year.

• It is also possible to register before reaching this mandatory threshold, but it will be necessary to reach the voluntary registration threshold of AED 187.

When a company collects tax from its customers (5% VAT), it pays it to the government. At the same time, it is entitled to a refund of the tax it paid to its suppliers. This procedure is managed by our accounting department, which takes care of the quarterly declaration required by the authorities.

Be aware, however, that the annual cost of your Licence is a "social contribution", and allows the Emirates to obtain an income and to ensure the proper functioning of public institutions.  

The cost of your Licence is therefore an annual expense and must be taken into consideration in the same way as rent for your accommodation.  

What makes this system very different from the one currently in place in the majority of states where you are taxed, is the fact that once you have paid this fixed annual Licence fee, all of your profit is yours. 

In order for you to benefit from zero tax on your personal income, you must plan to live in the UAE for more than 6 months per year.

Le Freelance Visa does not exist in Dubai.

Some organisations take advantage of the ignorance of foreigners to sell so-called Freelance Visa which are in fact "fake jobs" with third party companies, created so that you can obtain a Residency Visa.  

This results in a total loss of control over your residency and the significant risk that you could lose the entire amount of money you spent to obtain

Indeed, your family's visas are linked to your residence visa. In the event that a company on which you thought you were getting a freelance Visa closes down, or the agents decide to ask you for money to keep your Visa active, and you refuse to pay, you will lose all of your funds and you will be required to leave the UAE within 30 days.
